1.7M AC Units Recalled

Midea recalls ACs over mold risk linked to health issues; check yours now

This company just recalled 1.7 million air conditioners that could be making you sick. Midea's U and U+ Window Air Conditioners are being pulled from homes across America due to a serious design flaw. The units fail to drain water properly, creating the perfect environment for dangerous mold growth.

These air conditioners were sold everywhere - Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy, Amazon - between 2020 and 2025, priced between $280 and $500. They've already received 152 reports of mold, with 17 people suffering respiratory infections, allergic reactions, and other health issues. The recalled units were manufactured in China and Thailand, sold under popular brands like Frigidaire, Insignia, and Mr. Cool. If you own one, Midea is offering three options: a free repair from a technician, a DIY repair kit, or a refund if you return the unit or cut the power cord. This isn't just about comfort – it's about your health. Check Midea's website to see if your air conditioner is affected and what steps to take next.
