Double Strike: Airstrikes occurred on April 22 and May 12.
Russia’s largest ammunition depot—estimated to contain around 105,000 tons of military supplies—has reportedly been destroyed in a Ukrainian military operation, according to British and Ukrainian intelligence sources.
British intelligence reports suggest that Russia is currently suffering a significant loss of its weapons after this major storage facility was struck by Ukrainian airstrikes. The depot was reportedly hit twice: once on April 22 and again on May 12.
The explosion was so powerful that British analysts believe it destroyed the 51st ammunition depot in the Kech area of Russia’s Vladimir region. This massive site contained artillery shells, missiles, and aerial bombs, all of which were consumed in a devastating fire. The destruction has led to a significant loss of Russian military supplies, severely affecting its ongoing war effort in Ukraine.
According to the intelligence reports, the depot stored a wide variety of ammunition, including surface-to-air missiles designed to shoot down aircraft, as well as advanced missile systems meant to intercept other missiles and projectiles. It is believed that much of Russia’s artillery and strategic weapons from this facility were being prepared for deployment to the battlefield.
Satellite imagery has confirmed the scale of the attack, showing a massive explosion and thick plumes of smoke. A fire spread across more than one square kilometer on the edge of the depot, which British intelligence believes had been targeted in a coordinated Ukrainian drone strike.
British military analysts state that this attack has significantly disrupted Russia's military operations in Ukraine. They believe the destruction of such a key military base is a major setback for Russia, making it increasingly difficult to maintain its war effort.
Moreover, Russia’s attempt to reinforce its position on the battlefield—particularly by producing and acquiring more artillery and missiles from other countries—has suffered a severe blow. Every weapon collected and stored in this massive arsenal was lost in the fire.
British analysts conclude that Ukrainian drone strikes have effectively exposed the vulnerabilities in Russia’s defense and logistics. At the very least, they argue, this shows that Russia’s sense of security is being challenged and continues to erode under the pressure of precise and strategic Ukrainian attacks.
